Wine Tasting in Lyon: Why Choose an Immersive Experience?

Understanding WineLyon Tourism

Learn about wine without intimidation in 120m² of vaulted cellars in Lyon 7. Interactive terminals, aromas, terroirs and a tasting of 8 wines. An unusual activity in Lyon.

Lyon is a city of food lovers. But when it comes to wine, the classic experience can quickly become intimidating: a sommelier talking about “soft tannins” and “garnet hues with ruby reflections”… while you nod along pretending to understand.

What if wine tasting in Lyon could finally be fun, accessible and memorable? That’s exactly the promise of Le Petit Musée du Vin, tucked inside the vaulted cellars of the 7th arrondissement.

Wine tasting in Lyon, reinvented

Forget the intimidating sommelier

In a classic wine bar, you’re often faced with a menu of 80 references without really knowing what to order. At Le Petit Musée du Vin, it’s the opposite: you understand first, then you taste.

The tour is designed for beginners and curious wine enthusiasts alike. No jargon. No judgement. Just a passion for wine conveyed in a sensory and playful way — a truly unusual activity in Lyon that stands apart from the ordinary.

120m² of 19th-century vaulted cellars

From the moment you enter, the setting transports you. The 120m² of vaulted cellars in golden stone create a unique atmosphere, halfway between a cabinet of curiosities and a laboratory of the senses. It’s one of the rare places in Lyon where you can learn about wine inside a historic 19th-century setting.

A sensory journey through 5 rooms

Touch, smell, understand

The museum is organised into 5 progressive spaces. You start with the origins — 7,000 years of wine history in a single mural — before diving into terroir. And here, “terroir” is no abstract concept: you actually touch the different soils (granite, clay, limestone) that give wines their character.

The olfactory library trains your nose on the great wine aromas. Red fruits, forest floor, spices, leather… You’ll finally be able to put words to what you smell in your glass.

Interactive terminals in 7 languages

Le Petit Musée du Vin is a digital museum designed for all audiences. The interactive terminals are available in 7 languages — making it the ideal unusual activity in Lyon for international visitors and curious locals alike.

The tasting: 8 wines to bring it all together

A curated selection: organic, natural and orange wines, local crus

The tour ends with its centrepiece: a tasting of 8 wines served from Enomatic dispensers at perfect temperature. The selection is rigorous and rotating, favouring local gems and cuvées from Maison Bugnazet, a key reference in the region.

On the menu: organic and natural wines, orange wines, Beaujolais crus… A hands-on way to put into practice what you’ve just learned. You’ll finally understand why a Morgon is nothing like a Fleurie, and why orange wine contains no orange.
